How much of this right of way is left? Could any of it be used for a new light rail transit line?

Well there's actually tons of it left in and around Canyon, but elsewhere they're gone for good. The obstacles are mind boggling and numerous. There's absolutely no way any rails will be put back in this area.

I thought I had a good idea. Unfortunately, I found out later while exploring the rest of this site that the tunnel portals have caved in. I didn't know that. That fact alone would probably sink the possibilty. Yet the BART tubes under the Bay are reaching capacity. The idea has been explored in putting light rail transit back on the Bay Bridge. A fast, San Franciso - Moraga - Lafayette transit line in this corridor would make sense. Although it would cost big bucks. None the less it might cost less if an earlier, existing roadbed were utilized.
