The right-of-way embankment in the center of the photo has been leveled and replaced with recreation fields. The nice house above the crossbuck still stands (on Chabot Rd right before where the trestle was).

Today this SN train would lie under the 1960's built Grove-Shafter freeway, as would much of Broadway in this picture.

Shafter Ave ended at the RR cross buck at Patton St. You are looking down Patton St. Oakland. Broadway is behind you.

In 1948, the street in the foreground is still Broadway, which meets Shafter where two autos are waiting at the crossing. This stretch did not become Patton Street until Broadway was realigned in preparation for the freeway.
