This looks to me more like the East Portal, considering the track curvature, the shanty, and the slopes on all sides. Or not?

OK, I'm convinced that this is in fact the WEST portal. It's all in the perspective ;-)

Its the east end. Pics. nn61 and nn68 were consecutive shots on the same roll of film. We know there was power on both ends of the train, nn61 in the same train in nn68 but it the tail end locomotive. And the little shack is clearly shown in 'Electric Rails Around the Bay' DVD The evergreen tree in the same in both shots, the photographer did not even move his feet between nn61 and nn68.

IT IS west portal mid way between the tunnel and the Pasa Robles crossing at Havens

look like the Eastport location; the Havens portal had a girder-like extension..... 6/2/09

100% positively west side. Eastport east side had Pinehurst crossing right over the top of the portal, and an almost vertical rock cliff above Pinehurst. Look close and you're see the girder framework.
