This was the site of almost-daily hair-raising adventures. Running with a single 44-tonner and up to 8 or 9 carloads of bombs for Port Chicago + caboose, we would have to make a run for the subway to have enough speed/power to get out the other side. As we neared the bottom, local kids would try to hop the train at speeds far in excess of safety. It was a miracle we never killed any.
