Leaving Moraga. Heading west. 1948. There is a mix-up on who took this photo. I'm working on resolving it, but at this point it looks like it's either Roger K. Heller or William T. Larkins.
Also the hillside in the background is pretty much unchanged so it should't be to hard to line things up.

Train is westbound just west of valley vista. The bridge was near the top of the hill.

Have driven back and forth on Canyon Rd. many times but still cannot figure out exactly where the site of this bridge was. Does anyone know where to look?

The narrow wooden bridge making a sharp S-turn over the cut remained in place for many years after the SN was abandoned.

I think this one is heading East into Morega, toward Valle Vista. Caboose on the end and no engineer in the cab. He would be in the opposite corner.

When bridge was removed (1969) hill was regraded and road was relocated to approximate row location. Spent an hour or two in this area a short while ago and could find no evidence of bridge abutments, piers or cement retaining wall seen in the picture. This area looks nothing today like it does in the picture. The hill and trees in the background are still easilly indentifiable, though the spot where the picture was taken from could not be found and probably does not exist anymore.

Thanks Dave. I've been trying to find this spot myself. I drive this road quite often, and I can't imagine the exact spot where this is. It makes me feel slightly better that it's not an easy one.

the train is moving west along what is now the end of the Moraga bike path to Valley vista staging area. the present Canyon road crests the hill to the right of the trestle, and descends east to the staging area, to the right of the rear of the train. If you walk west past the end of the bike trail you are following the pictured row. If you continue west you will intersect the present Canyon road just above the entrance to Indian Valley. The year is when I first moved to Canyon at three days old!
